This is a super deluxe expanded collection featuring classic performances from Eric Clapton’s 1990 and 1991 concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The original release was a double vinyl set containing 15 tracks. The legendary venue hosted 32 of his “Slowhand” shows, including 18 consecutive nights—a record that he himself set—performed with four different bands.
The new box set includes 47 tracks, three-quarters of which have never been released before. The recordings are divided into three sections (the original version had four): Rock, Blues, and Orchestral. At the time, Clapton was surrounded by an all-star lineup. On the first disc, Phil Collins takes the drummer’s seat, joining Clapton for versions of Bob Marley’s I Shot the Sheriff and Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. The second disc features guitarists Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and Jimmy Vaughan—the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in August 1990.
The third disc is more introspective, backed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen, delivering powerful 10-minute renditions of Robert Johnson’s Crossroads and Layla. Altogether, the collection runs nearly six hours and offers an exceptionally rewarding listening experience.
