Bury the Hatchet is the fourth studio album by Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries, released on April 19, 1999. In the United States, the album had shipped 500,000 copies by June 2 of the same year and was certified Gold.
This was the band’s first album following their initial hiatus, which began in September 1996. During that break, Dolores O’Riordan recovered from illness brought on by stress and welcomed the birth of her first child, Taylor. These life changes influenced several tracks on the album, particularly “Animal Instinct” and “You and Me.”
Lyrically, the record explores a range of themes — from motherhood and childhood to divorce and child abuse — reflecting both personal experience and social awareness through The Cranberries’ signature melodic style.
